The church functions as the body of Christ, with Jesus as the head directing every aspect of our collective life. While Christians have different spiritual gifts and roles, we are united as one body where every member has essential purpose. When each person faithfully uses their gifts and works together with others, the entire body grows in Christlikeness and effectiveness. However, when members don't fulfill their roles, the whole body suffers and becomes less effective. God designed us to work together, not as independent believers, and our unity comes through each person doing their part under Christ's leadership.
